As part of a thank you for support, a well-known jazz musician has donated an autographed guitar to KEWU-FM 89.5, Eastern’s jazz radio station. Bill Frisell signed the arctic-white Squier Bullet Strat, which is made by Fender, as part of a promotional effort for his newest album release. It was one of four guitars given away in the nationwide promotion.
The distinguished jazz innovator’s latest album, All We Are Saying…, is a re-imagined cover of John Lennon and Beatles tunes. To promote the release, the artist and his record label, Savoy Jazz, monitored how many times the record was played by radio stations across the country. Unbeknownst to KEWU-FM, they were among the top-four stations in the country, playing tracks from the album approximately 84 times during the monitoring period and were awarded the signed instrument.
While the donation brings national attention to KEWU, the station’s program and music director, Elizabeth Farriss, says the guitar will be used as part of a fundraising campaign. “We think we’re going to try and raffle it off during our next spring pledge drive, but we haven’t figured out exactly how we’re going to go about it,” she said.
KEWU provides jazz programming for approximately 12,000 weekly listeners. Their broadcast footprint reaches westward to Ritzville and eastward into locations in Idaho, including Sandpoint, Silver Valley and Moscow. The station broadcasts 24-hours a day and is simulcast online.
