As part of a nationwide grassroots sensation, EWU will host a screening and panel discussion of “Race to Nowhere” – a documentary film that’s feeding a groundswell for educational reform.
Created by first-time filmmaker Vicki Abeles, the film tells the stories of young people pushed to the brink, burned out teachers and deeply frustrated parents. Blending personal stories of stress, illness and tragedy with interviews and discussions with leading doctors and professors from across the country, the documentary asks, among other questions: Educational achievement: what does it take? What should education in the United States be? What are the current assumptions held by families, educators, experts and policy makers regarding how to effectively prepare the youth of America in becoming the leaders of tomorrow?
On Thursday, March 1, from 6-8 p.m., EWU Libraries, EWU Department of Education and Eastern Reading Council will co-sponsor a free screening of “Race to Nowhere” in the JFK Library Auditorium in Cheney. A panel discussion of the hailed film will follow.
Persons with special needs may make arrangements for accommodation by calling 509-359-2264 a week prior to the event. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and open to the public.
