College Poetry Slam
On Thursday, April 11, EWU Writers in the Community will host this year’s College Poetry Slam at the Kress Gallery. The winner of the College Poetry Slam will open for Major Jackson & Robert Wrigley on Saturday, April 13. Registration is on Thursday April 11 at 5:30 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m.
A Conversation with Jess Walter and Shawn Vestal
Acclaimed authors and EWU alumni Jess Walter and Shawn Vestal will be reading at the Barrister Winery on Saturday, April 13 at 5 p.m. The pair will read from their new collections, We Live in Water and Godforsaken Idaho, and participate in a discussion with the audience moderated by fiction writer and associate professor of creative writing at EWU, Sam Ligon.
On Friday April 12, EWU’s Get Lit! Festival will host a University Panel at the EWU Cheney Campus in the Hargreaves Hall Reading Room at 9:30 a.m. The panel, Bringing Light to the Dark Side: Creating Complex Characters in Fiction, will feature Jaimy Gordon, author of the National Book Award-winner Lord of Mirsule; Sharma Shields, author of Favorite Monsters; and Shawn Vestal, author of Godforsaken Idaho.
On Tuesday, April 9, the EWU University Theatre will feature a special showing of Ode, a play by poet and EWU professor Jonathan Johnson. The play, which tells the story of the whirlwind romance between the great English poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne, will begin at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
