Changes in CALE

I am pleased to announce that Jim Perez, PhD, has agreed to serve as interim dean of the College of Arts, Letters & Education from Sept. 3, 2013, to June 30, 2014.  Dr. Perez has extensive experience in higher education, having held central administrative positions at the Community Colleges of Spokane, North Idaho College and at EWU.  Many of you will recall that he served as interim dean of EWU’s School of Social Work and Human Services during the college consolidation initiative.  Moreover, he also led the School’s effort to gain re-accreditation.

Dr. Perez is an experienced leader who values faculty governance, and he is committed to educational excellence.  I have every reason to believe that CALE and EWU will be well served by his appointment.  Dr. Perez’s starting date has been timed to allow for nearly two weeks of overlap with Dean Lynn Briggs, who will return to the ranks of professorate on Sept. 16. This should facilitate a smooth transition. In closing, I want to thank Dean Briggs for her leadership and contributions to CALE and EWU.  Her leadership team and she have made great strides within the college in creating a sense of community, which will serve CALE well for years to come.
