Grades
June 2, 2011 By Alex Chernikov
So now that I’ve posted up lit 2 exam grades under the CPLA grader, you should see your overall grade be updated to match what your final grade would look like (minus some of the homework that hasn’t been graded yet). The overall grade will be the MINIMUM grade that you will receive in the class; it is under my discretion to raise it if needed (I will not lower it, however).
An explanation to how the overall grading works:
- 2.-0-4.0 = This is the minimum grade you will receive, aka you have 600+ points of homework and have passed both lit exams.
- 1.9 or less = You may have done well on the tests, but you cannot pass the class unless you have at least 600 points in the class. This is non-negotiable.
- 1.0X – This means that you have gotten an “incomplete” due to test grades (less than 80% on any one lit exam). You are allowed one retake per test – do NOT RUSH to get a retake though, you have up until the end of next quarter (end of Spring 2011) to get this taken (so make sure to study up). Once you take it, LET ME KNOW by email so I can update your grade. If you do not retake the exam by the end of next quarter or do not pass on your retake, your grade will be a 1.0.
Literacy Exam retake info
June 2, 2011 By Alex Chernikov
To pass a literacy test, you must get 80% or above on all sections (average of all sections). If you didn’t, you will need to retake the exam (take a challenge exam).
Here is the information for the exam:
http://access.ewu.edu/CPLA/CPLA-Challenge-Exam-Information.xml
And here are the test times/dates:
http://access.ewu.edu/CPLA/CPLA-Challenge-Exam-Dates.xml
Once you have finished a challenge exam, SEND ME AN EMAIL and let me know so I can change your grade in class accordingly (it will be the average of the test you took in class and the retake).
I will post grades up for the test after the test is finished (after Thursday).
6/3/11 – No class
June 1, 2011 By Alex Chernikov
There is no class on 6/3/11. The final has been posted and is due by June 7th at 2PM – I will not take them any later as I will start posting grades at this point. If you have 1000 or more homework points, you do not need to take the final.
We will not be meeting on our final either. If you have questions, you can contact me by email.
Have a great summer!
Literacy 2 Exam: details
May 25, 2011 By Alex Chernikov
The literacy exam will be given on the 5/31 and 6/2. The test will cover three sections:
- Excel – 45%
- Excel Tables – 45%
- Database – 10%
To pass the exam (and not have to retake), you will have to score at least an 80% overall (or >= 79.5).
If you have not already signed up for a myitlab account, now would be a good time to get one. You will not be able to take the test without one. In addition to that,
- Make sure you can log in with your account into myitlab
- Make sure you can get into the course (if you haven’t enrolled in the course, see the syllabus for the course code).
- Make sure you know how to get to the test (through Course Content -> Lit 2 Exam). The exam will be password protected; you will get the password on the day of the test.
If you start a section of the test, you will have to finish it by the end of class time. Do not start a new section with only 5 minutes left of class; wait until the next test time to start that section. Also, once you submit a section, you cannot go back to it. You can skip questions inside of a section and come back to them later, but once you submit the section, you will not be able to come back to them.
So a good strategy for the test would be to start on the Excel section the first day and finish the database section if possible. Then the second day, start the Excel tables section.
Here is the outline for the Literacy 2 Exam:
There is also a practice exam located on myitlab that you can take, just to get a feel for how the test is going to run. Any questions? Shoot me an email.
