What is it? Canvas is a new Learning Management System planned to replace Blackboard at Eastern by the end of the 2012-13 School Year.

How do I access Canvas:

Students and Faculty can log on by visiting: Canvas.ewu.edu

This will automatically go to EWU’s single sign-on system (SSO), where you would input your NetID and Password – information about this process can be found here: http://access.ewu.edu/oit/services/accounts-passwords.xml

Training

Instructional Technologies is offering faculty and staff Canvas trainings for spring quarter. We will be covering Canvas navigation, course management and migration strategies. If you’re just starting to explore Canvas and would like to learn the basics, Canvas I training will be helpful. If you’ve moved beyond the basics and would like to explore Canvas in further detail, join us for Canvas II training.

CANVAS I TRAININGS

This overview of Canvas should provide basic knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Attendees should expect the following:

  • Gain a general understanding of the Canvas LMS
  • Learn about Canvas user profile settings
  • How to use communication channels in Canvas, including notification settings
  • Basic course setup information and best practices
  • Develop an understanding about how best to migrate existing content from Blackboard or other sources

Recommended Browsers & Operating Systems:

Canvas runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, & Android or any other device with a modern web browser. If you are interested in minimum requirements. As of March 11, 2013, Canvas supports the following browser and Flash versions:

  • Internet Explorer 9, and 10 (support for IE 8 will end on March 31, 2013)
  • Chrome 22, 23, and 24
  • Safari 5 and 6
  • Firefox 17, 18, and 19
  • Flash 9, 10, and 11 (if you want to use the audio/video recording or viewing feature or upload files)
