Overview

Young Women + Summit is a free leadership program serving young women in grades 9-12, specifically first-generation, low-income, and multicultural populations in the greater Inland Northwest. The summit empowers and motivates young women to excel in academics and social achievement. Participants will acquire tools for personal development, confidence, and academic success.

The Young Women + Summit theme is “Unbreakable,” which means to exceed labels or limits of society in finding and igniting your passion … to be on fire for social justice, solidarity, feminism, and education.

Purpose Statement

The Young Women+ Summit empowers and motivates our young women to excel in academics and social achievement. Participants will acquire tools for personal development, confidence, and academic success.

Objectives

  • Examine femininity; deconstruct stereotypes of beauty, body image, and self-esteem; and critically analyze the impact these issues have on our relationships.
  • Interrogate the institutional structures, policies, and practices of the persistent oppressive systems that inhibits access and persistence in education and careers for women and women of difference.
  • Recognize and celebrate our accomplishments, build a vision for the future, and evoke a bond strengthened by similar and shared experiences.
