Last year over 3000 lbs of food was raised; this year the goal is 3300 lbs. The resulting creations will remain on display for several days following the event.

Update from Dr. Ted Otto, Interim Dean of Libraries (5.17.13)

In preparing for Phase 2 of the Learning Commons development, the Main Level commons area will be expanded to accommodate several additional partners.  This includes Career Services and Math tutoring (a PLUS activity).

The expansion of Learning Commons space requires shifting print periodicals in the Science classifications “QP” through “Z” to the Lower Level of JFK.  Where possible, print periodicals will be replaced with digital access to the same content.  If digital access is not possible, the print periodicals will be kept and moved to the Lower Level of JFK.  The academic subjects involved include physiology, microbiology, medicine, agriculture, technology, military/naval science, and bibliography/information science.

In addition, the Lower Level will see shifts of several small sections including LP records and folio (oversize) books.

Planning for this process is underway, and the physical moves will begin after the spring quarter ends.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Ms. Suzanne Milton, EWU Librarian IV, has accepted the position of Dean of Libraries at Eastern.  Ms. Milton came to EWU in 1992 and has twenty-one years of professional academic experience.

At EWU, Ms. Milton’s most recent assignment has been as Head of Reference Services and Chair of the Library Faculty.  Prior roles at Eastern include Coordinator of Extended Campus Programs, Access Services Librarian (Interlibrary Loan and Circulation Services), and Acting Head of Information Services.  In addition, she served for fifteen years as the book review editor of the international, refereed library journal, LIBRES. Before coming to Eastern, Ms. Milton worked with the Inland Northwest Council of Libraries in Spokane and spent five years in the corporate sector as a librarian at St. Paul Medical Center in Dallas, National Realty Advisors, and the Dallas Museum of Art.  Ms. Milton holds a Master of Library Science from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Arts in German from California State University, Long Beach.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the search and screen committee for their service.  In addition, Ted Otto has led the unit in an admirable fashion during his tenure as Interim Dean. I know that Suzanne and Ted will work together to coordinate the upcoming transition,  and I am confident that we will continue to see the library faculty and staff strive for excellence in all aspects of their work.
