EWU’s Interfraternity Council will be conducting a philanthropy event entitled “Fill the Bus” on May 8 outside the URC. The goal is to fill a campus recreation bus with school supplies to be donated to the Cheney School District for distribution.
“While it is the end of the school year, many kids have run out of supplies and schools can get a jump on stockpiling for the next year,” said Samantha Armstrong-Ash, Advisor Student Leadership Education.
The Interfraternity Council is asking for basic school supplies, such as pencils, paper, rulers and notebooks. Any items can just be dropped off at the bus, which will be parked outside the URC for the entire day. Members of IFC will be on hand to help organize the donations and promote the event.
“IFC felt that a philanthropy event during spring Rush would be great for two reasons: we have the opportunity to bring people together to help others, and it provides us a great way to improve the image of the Greek system by spreading the word that we do a significant amount of community service, as well philanthropy events throughout the EWU and Cheney community,” said IFC President, Nick Sweeney. “Bring your extra school supplies down or buy some to donate to help the community we live in!”
