Longtime Employee Ethel Deaver Passes Away

Dear Campus Community:

It is with great sadness that I report to you the passing of Ms. Ethel Deaver, age 91, a remarkable person who worked for Eastern for more than 30 years in the Office of Career Services.  Ms. Deaver, who specialized in coordinating teaching positions and placements for Education majors, was well known for going above and beyond the call of duty in her dedication and assistance to Eastern’s students.

In addition to her ongoing commitment to the university’s students, Ms. Deaver, who was over 80 when she retired, was  famous for her three inch spiked heels and her Ford Bronco.  She loved sports and was an avid tennis, racquetball, and volleyball player, a water skier, and a snow skier.  She leaves behind three sons, numerous family members, and countless friends and grateful alumni who mourn her passing.

A celebration of life will be held for Ethel Deaver on Friday, Jan. 24, 5 p.m., at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home (1306 N. Monroe, Spokane).  In her honor, a memorial fund will be established to support the 49 Degrees North Ski Patrol Education Scholarship Fund.
