In the Spotlight is an opportunity for the campus community to get to know one another better. The goal is to build Eastern’s community by becoming familiar with the faces of faculty and staff members.
Department: PLUS (Program Leading to University Success) We offer FREE academic support to students at EWU through peer-based collaborative study groups, one-on-one tutoring, ETutoring and student success programming. Out offices are located on the main level of JFK Library in the Learning Commons.
Number of years at Eastern: two months (However, I also worked in MarCom, which was called University Relations, from 1999-2003.)
Brief personal/professional description:
I grew up in Bozeman, Montana, where I attended MSU and obtained my bachelor’s degree in business administration/marketing. After college, I moved to Spokane when I landed my first job as an assistant at a local advertising agency. I continued to work in marketing for several local companies and organizations, including the Spokane Symphony, WSU Spokane and EWU.
In 2005, I completed a master’s degree in communications from EWU and became an adjunct instructor at EWU, SCC and Whitworth. Before coming back to EWU a couple of months ago, I served as a full-time instructor at North Idaho College for almost seven years. I also served as department chair for the College Skills Division, which included the Testing Center and the Peer Tutoring Center.
I live in Spokane with my husband (Eric, who also works at EWU); my daughter, Paige; and our dogs.
Favorite book: The Help
Favorite movie: I’m more of a TV fan. I’m really into Netflix, and I’m finally watching all of the shows that were popular years ago like Breaking Bad and even the Gilmore Girls!
Favorite restaurant: I love MOD Pizza! But, I also like Downriver Grill and Twigs.
Favorite quote: It’s a quote my mom said to me when things weren’t going the way I had planned: “This too shall pass.”
Favorite vacation: Renting a cabin/house at one of our local lakes each summer is something I really look forward to. It’s a place where all of our family can meet up with no agendas! I am saving up, however, to go on a European River Cruise!
If I could do anything today I would: Head somewhere warm.
