Dear Campus Community:
I’m pleased to announce that we have identified an interim space and director for a Multicultural Center. This interim plan will provide additional resources and support to students until the PUB renovation is complete and the new center opens.
The interim Multicultural Center will be located in SHW 303, a large open area (with natural light) that will allow us to create many of the spaces that have been discussed for the permanent location, including a lounge, resource library, conference table for meetings, and workstations for students. Joint oversight for the Multicultural Center will be provided by both the Office of the President and Student Affairs.
Starting today, March 20, Victor Rodriguez will serve in the role of Interim MCC Director. Victor has worked for EWU for 10 years, following his graduation from the university in 2007. As the current Manager of New Student Transitions and Parent Programs, he is well-versed in the needs of our students and skilled in providing student resources and support. We expect Victor to remain in his interim post until we have concluded a search for a permanent director.
We’ll work with Victor and the Multicultural Center Exploration Team in the coming weeks to ensure that it is a welcoming, gracious center for students.
I’m grateful to leadership across the university who have made this opportunity possible. Many thanks, also, to the students, staff, and faculty who shared feedback and recommendations regarding an interim center and staffing.
