Dear Campus Community:
I am delighted to announce that Dr. Shari Clarke has accepted my invitation to be our founding Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion. She will begin work at EWU on August 2, 2017.
Dr. Clarke comes to EWU from Ohio University, where she has served as Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer since 2014. Over the past 25 years, she has held leadership positions at Temple University, Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, the University of Nebraska, the University of Maine-Orono, and Whitman College in Walla Walla.
In all her roles, Dr. Clarke has focused on creating diverse and inclusive learning communities and has worked collaboratively to advance diversity initiatives and expand opportunities for all students.
Dr. Clarke received her PhD in Educational Leadership and Higher Education at the University of Nebraska. She received her MA from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and her BA from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee.
I am very grateful to the search committee. Co-chaired by Dr. Esteban Rodriguez-Marek and Chief of Staff Angela Jones, the committee worked intensively and thoughtfully in reviewing a wide selection of outstanding candidates. And I am also very appreciative of the many EWU faculty, staff, and students who participated in campus visits and provided feedback regarding our top candidates.
Dr. Clarke will be an excellent addition to the leadership team at EWU. I know you will join me in warmly welcoming her.
