In the Spotlight is an opportunity for the campus community to get to know one another better. The goal is to build Eastern’s community by becoming familiar with the faces of faculty and staff members.
Title: Assistant Professor
Number of years at Eastern: Six
Brief personal/professional description: Moved around a bit studying faults and volcanoes, for example in Humboldt County and along Cascadia, hydrothermal dynamics in Iceland and Yellowstone, and other studies. As a co-author of Washington Rocks!, a book published in 2016 through Mountain Press, I have been giving a lot of talks and studying about the effects of the Missoula Floods, regional tectonics and natural hazards. I helped with 10 projects that are being presented at this year’s EWU Symposium. Personally, I used to spend a lot of time coaching and teaching snowboarding, as a PADI Divemaster in the PNW and Australia, play drums in a few bands, and rock climbing. These days when I am not at EWU I am spending time with my family, coaching kiddo soccer, or working in the yard.
Favorite book: Compton’s Geology in the Field
Favorite movie: Watching my kiddos grow
Favorite restaurant: The grill on my deck
Favorite quote: Have a gneiss day.
Favorite vacation: Every day after work, Medical Lake is beautiful.
If I could do anything today I would: What I am doing.
