In the Spotlight is an opportunity for the campus community to get to know one another better. The goal is to build Eastern’s community by becoming familiar with the faces of faculty and staff members.
Name: Brian Davenport
Department: Office of Community Engagement
Number of years at Eastern: 16 weeks
Brief personal/professional description: I am a career educator. I have been a high school social studies teacher, an admissions counselor, and assistant director of the Master in Teaching program at Whitworth University. Most recently I was assistant professor of Leadership & Organizational Studies at the University of Southern Maine. I have also had numerous random jobs, mostly in high school and college, ranging from barista to making balloon animals at restaurants. While originally from Phoenix, Arizona, I happily consider the Inland Northwest home.
Favorite book: To Kill A Mockingbird though East of Eden is a close second.
Favorite movie: The Dark Knight. I want to write an article exploring the leadership elements in this film. Once you get past the fact that it is a super hero film, it has some really great stuff in it.
Favorite restaurant: The Flying Goat. I love the Fairview pizza. It’s on Northwest Blvd in Spokane. It’s worth the trip
Favorite quote: I have lots that I really like. We’ll go with Parker Palmer this time. “Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am.” – Parker Palmer, Let Your Like Speak. Read this book. It’s short. It’s worth your time.
Favorite vacation: My wife and I spent a long weekend in Paris when we were young. It was a random trip and we were only there for three days, but it was wonderful! Paris is a great city and I would love to go back.
If I could do anything today I would: Go to a Red Sox game. I love the Sox and Fenway is like a cathedral to me.
