Eastern Washington University is pleased to introduce Vanessa Delgado as the new director of the EWU Multicultural Center.
She will begin her duties March 1.
Delgado comes to Eastern from the University of Kansas where she has managed the Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity since 2015. Prior to that she spent three years directing initiatives for the LGBT Resource Center and the Multicultural Office for Student Access, Inclusiveness and Community (M.O.S.A.I.C.) at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
“I am very passionate about higher education and working with college age students,” says Delgado. “I am excited to bring this passion to the EWU Multicultural Center, where I will work to promote inclusiveness and empower students to find their voice.”
She received her Bachelor of Science at Texas A&M University and a master’s in mental health counseling from Northern Arizona University.
Delgado’s hiring comes after a nationwide search for the center’s first permanent director. The Multicultural Center was created last year under the leadership of President Mary Cullinan to provide resources and support to students.
She will take over for Victor Rodriguez, who has served as the MCC director on an interim basis since last March. Rodriguez will return to his post as manager of New Student Transitions and Parent Programs at Eastern.
While it is currently located in Showalter Hall, the Multicultural Center will have a permanent home in the new Pence Union Building (PUB) once renovation is complete by the fall of 2018.
