Eastern Washington University Eagles Hockey Club is proud to announce a new generation of hockey in Cheney.
After a successful 2017-2018 campaign, culminating with a Northern Pacific Hockey Conference Championship, the EWU Hockey Club gained recognition from the PAC-8 conference and has been accepted into their league for the 2018-2019 season. The Eagles’ regular season schedule will include games against University of Oregon, Western Washington University, University of California Los Angeles, University of Washington, Washington State University, and Boise State University.
At the end of the regular season, the Eagles will then have an opportunity to compete in Lake Tahoe against the top teams in the PAC-8 conference including teams from the PAC-8 South; Arizona State University, University of Southern California, University of California Berkley, San Jose State University, and San Diego State University.
With the opportunity to become a nationally recognized competitor, the Eagles have decided to combine the current two club sports federation hockey teams into a single competitive and winning program, with the hopes of soon returning to the ACHA National Tournament.
“I am very proud of what we achieved this year in the Northern Pacific Hockey Conference, this opportunity to join the PAC-8 was earned by our players and the teams from the past who set the stage for progress,” remarked second-year head coach Pat Hanlon on the move to the PAC-8.
Eastern Washington University Club Sports coordinator, Travis Allen added, “This move positions EWU Hockey to return to the program of old. Administratively we are excited at the chance for our student body to no longer be confused about which team is playing and hopefully this translates to a larger crowd present at games. Our students are excited to see schools they’ve heard about for years in their very own building.”
