A message from Provost Scott Gordon:
Members of the University Community:
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Charles V. (Charlie) Mutschler, university archivist at Eastern Washington University, has agreed to serve as interim dean of EWU Libraries. Dr. Mutschler holds a BA from Eastern Washington State College (1977), an MA from Eastern Washington University (1981), an MA in archival administration from Western Washington University (1992), and a PhD in history from Washington State University (1999).
Mutschler has served the university library since 1981, initially as an archival assistant, then as assistant archivist from 1983 until 1998. He was acting university archivist from 1998 until 2001, and became university archivist in 2001. His monographic publications include Spokane’s Street Railways: An Illustrated History; Wired for Success: The Butte Anaconda & Pacific Railway; and A Doctor Among the Oglala Sioux: The Letters of Robert H. Ruby, 1953-1954 (co-edited with Cary C. Collins). His service activities include the Cheney Historic Preservation Commission.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Mutschler on his new role in service to the university. The search for a permanent dean of libraries will soon get underway and will be chaired by Dr. Laureen O’Hanlon, dean of EWU’s College of Health Science and Public Health.
