In the Spotlight is an opportunity for the campus community to get to know one another better. The goal is to build Eastern’s community by becoming familiar with the faces of faculty and staff members.
Title: Captain, US Army, Assistant Professor of Military Science
Department: College of Social Science
Number of years at Eastern: 1 month
Brief personal/professional description: I was born and raised in and around Richmond, Virginia. I graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Finance. My professional career as an US Army field artillery officer began in January 2009. I’ve deployed twice to Afghanistan and been stationed in Germany, Ft. Still, Oklahoma, JBLM, WA, and now here at Eastern Washington University.
Favorite book: Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson and Principles by Ray Dalio.
Favorite restaurant: My favorite chain restaurant is the Ram Restaurant and Brewery. So far my favorite restaurant in Spokane is the Flying Goat and the best pizza there is, without a doubt, the Dalton.
Favorite vacation: For R&R leave, 7 months into my first deployment to Afghanistan, I took my girlfriend, who would later become my wife, to a little island off the east coast of Madagascar called Mauritius. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort called La Pirogue enjoying amazing food, drinks, and local excursions.
If I could do anything today I would: A perfect day to me would start with a workout in the morning. Then my wife and I would go out to breakfast while grandma watched our daughter. When we got back we would grab up the whole family, including Grandma, and go to a local kids park or museum. In the evening, we would invite friends over for a cookout in the backyard.
