In the Spotlight is an opportunity for the campus community to get to know one another better. The goal is to build Eastern’s community by becoming familiar with the faces of faculty and staff members.
Title: Administrative Assistant 3
Department: Office of the President
Number of years at Eastern: 9 months
Brief personal/professional description: I moved to Spokane from SLC in 2008 to finish my bachelor’s degree in business administration at Eastern. Prior to moving here, I had never heard of Spokane and had never been to Washington state. It was basically like throwing a dart on a map to figure out where to move. It was probably the most reckless and exciting thing I’ve done in my life to date. I finished my degree while working for the marketing department of a for-profit school group. I’ve always loved the office setting and enjoyed working within a school, so EWU seemed like the obvious choice to apply. I have greatly enjoyed my time here so far and love working with such a great community of people.
Favorite book: Thanks to the bus ride, I’ve been reading a lot lately. Most recently I finished Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Extremely well written and terrifyingly prescient. Highly recommended, even if you’ve already watched the TV series.
Favorite movie: Away We Go
Favorite quote: “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” – EE Cummings
Favorite restaurant: Most of my eating out happens at Iron Goat Brewery. Not technically a restaurant, but you wouldn’t know that by the amazing food the kitchen staff produces. Another plus is that it always pairs nicely with a pint.
Favorite vacation: Probably my honeymoon in Jamaica. I dreamed of going there forever and it lived up to everything I imagined. Next vacation goal: Egypt…; Ireland; Scotland; Iceland; Thailand; New Zealand; basically anywhere that ends in –land. I’d love to be able to go and see everything the world has to offer.
If I could do anything today, I would: be on my way to a warm beach with good friends.
