What a joyous day Eastern’s Giving Joy Day turned out to be!
On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the EWU community raised more than $1.8 million in cash, pledges and in-kind gifts, far surpassing the original goal of $275,000. These gifts will benefit Eastern students for years to come.
“You are all awesome, said EWU President Mary Cullinan. “Your enthusiastic support on Giving Joy Day was amazing.”
This year’s goal was bolstered by two significant gifts, one that will greatly benefit our jazz program and another that will provide equipment support for our computer science students.
By noon Tuesday, the $10,000 challenge match goal offered by President Mary Cullinan was reached. This means the university community had donated more than $20,000 for scholarships in various departments and colleges.
In addition to President Cullinan’s match, Numerica Credit Union donated $25,000 to their own scholarship fund. Numerica also surprised two Eastern Washington University students with $2,500 scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year.
Giving Joy Day is Eastern’s version of Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year.
