In the Spotlight is an opportunity for the campus community to get to know one another better. The goal is to build Eastern’s community by becoming familiar with the faces of faculty and staff members.

Number of years at Eastern: Beginning my fifth year.
Brief personal/professional description: I am a first-generation 1997 EWU graduate. I earned my BAE in social sciences and secondary education. I earned my MAT in English from Jacksonville University and earned my doctorate in Educational Administration from Walden University. My husband is currently a senior majoring in planning. I have two children, ages 4 and 6. I grew up in the small farming town of Colfax, Washington, and graduated from Colfax High School. Since graduating from EWU, I have traveled the world including Europe, South Korea and Siberia. I taught 5-12th grade English and social studies in eight states and Siberia and was the principal at a charter school in New Mexico. I enjoy camping, cooking, wine and quilting.
In my “free time,” I am a member of the Junior League of Spokane and sit on the Housing Board as treasurer for the EWU Epsilon Zeta chapter of Alpha Xi Delta. I enjoy giving back to my community.
Favorite book: A Room with a View by E.M. Forster, but I am also quite fond of police procedural mysteries.
Favorite movie: A Room with a View as well.
Favorite restaurant: Pretty much anything not “American.” I love ethnic food.

Favorite vacation: I don’t go on enough of them. My family’s favorite camping spot is on the beach on the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. My favorite overall vacation was traveling through Russia after teaching summer school in Siberia.
If I could do anything today, I would: Go on a quilt shop hop across the Inland Northwest with my mom. My mom and I don’t get to spend enough time together so even canning apples with her would be awesome.
