Reorganization of EWU’s Colleges Detailed

Last spring, Eastern Washington University administration and the Board of Trustees approved a reorganization of the university’s colleges from seven to four. The new college structure will go into effect on July 1, 2021.

While there are still details to be worked out and shared, Brian Levin-Stankevich, provost and vice president for academic affairs, released details Wednesday regarding the names of the four colleges and the leadership of the new structure.

College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
  • Will continue under the leadership of Dean David Bowman
College of Professional Studies
  • Will open under the leadership of Dean Jonathan Anderson, who currently serves as the dean of Social Sciences and the acting dean of the College of Business.
  • Will include the newly named School of Business and School of Libraries.
College of Health Science and Public Health
  • Will continue under the leadership of Interim Dean Donna Mann, who is on a continuing interim appointment.
College of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Will include programs from the current College of Arts, Letters and Education, College of Social Sciences and the University College.
  • The university will conduct an internal search for a dean during the winter/spring quarters of this academic year.

While unresolved questions remain regarding the status of directors and chairs in merged or moved departments, Provost Levin-Stankevich says there are ongoing initiatives to bring the units together for discussion.

“I want to thank all of our deans, associate deans, their offices and department chairs for the dedication to fulfilling their responsibilities, both ongoing and interim, during this transitional period,” he says. “These are all challenging roles within the university.”

Additional updates regarding the restructuring will be shared as the winter and spring quarters progress, adds Levin-Stankevich.
