After 12 years, it’s time to do a followup study on the 500 TV Free Families I contacted back in 2000. It should be fascinating to find out “How the kids turned out” and in what ways the decision to raise children TV Free affected them – positively and/or negatively.
On this site, there is a link for the TV Free Kids Survey as well as a link to the short six question TV Free Parent survey. Surveys will close on Friday, October 5.
This is the first time such a study has been done and your time is truly appreciated. As in the 2000 study on TV Free families, all information will remain completely anonymous. Your participation is voluntary and you may withdraw from the survey at any time without penalty.
NOTE: There are 200 remaining copies of the book about the original study, published in 2007, entitled: Living Outside the Box: TV Free Families Share their Secrets. The first 200 of the TV Free Kids who complete the “Growing Up Without Television” survey will be sent a book to express my thanks – just include your mailing address at the end of the survey. If you just want the results, simply include your email. No emails or addresses will ever be shared with anyone.
The “TV Free Parents” survey is very brief and should take less than five minutes to complete. The “Growing Up Without Television” survey should take from 20-25 minutes to complete. You may also “save and complete later” by pressing the link at the top of the survey. It is divided into five parts. Part 1: Demographics; Part 2: Lifestyle; Part 3: Technology; Part 4: Community; and Part 5: Your Aspirations and Advice.
NOTE: Since subjects for this study are gathered from a limited sample size, IF you know others who grew up with little or no TV, please encourage them to take this survey!
Once again, THANK YOU parents and children for your feedback. I am thrilled to be working with the next generation of my original subjects.
BOTH SURVEYS WILL CLOSE ON FRIDAY, October 5, 2012
