At Eastern Washington University there is a program by the name of the Domino Project. In this program half the children are typically developing and the rest of the children are autistic. We help the children learn based on individualized programs. To this we group children together in ability levels and individually teach them. Depending on the developmental level as well as intelligence and focus we reward the children. In the beginning, the children are reinforced more regularly than the children who have learned. The children start out with continuous reinforcement because whenever they followed directions they’d get to choose a reward but as they develop and learn they get reinforced based upon a fixed-ratio schedule depending on the child. For some children it’s every ten questions they get right, others it’s after the complete set.
