Guides/Links to Dealing with Difficult Dialogues in the Classroom
Power 2 the Poetry
The core of the group currently consists of 4 transcending black millennial poets, Bethany Montgomery (22), Afaria “AJ The Wordsmith” McKinney (26), Lynn’Marie White (23), and Marina Lotus (22). Our movement is called Power 2 the Poetry and we are The Collective of Philosophical Perspectives. We infiltrate consciousness by expressing truth. We shed light onto subjects that expose legitimate issues. We are the spark that ignites the flame to stand up and be the change. We are revolutionaries with the goal to motivate the masses to participate. We believe in the words that we speak. Which is why we believe Power 2 the Poetry.
Power 2 the Poetry is a movement promoting freedom of expression, providing a platform to underrepresented demographics in our community including: people of color, LGBTQ+, women, millennials, etc. All are welcome to share their art form. We raise awareness to social, cultural, and political issues, encouraging poets to address topics which make people uncomfortable. We initiate in-depth discussions engaging our audience in meaningful dialogue to inspire change. We express, expose, ignite.
We have 2 events coming up in February in honor of black history month. Tuesday February 20th, we will be hosting a poetry event at the Downtown Spokane Library on the 3rd floor from 6pm to 7:30pm. We will have featured poets and then will open the mic for the public to speak. Wednesday February 28th, we will be hosting a poetry slam at Aunties bookstore at 7pm.
