Looking for a new and unique place to eat, study, or simply pass the time away? Well, look no further than 2nd avenue. Kafka Café, located in Brewster Hall, is an innovative addition to Cheney that offers students and residents an alternative to the norm. Although the permanent café site is not yet open, the temporary shop is up and running smoothly. Kafka Café is tentatively scheduled to open October 20, 2002.
The café will be fully equipped with Internet hook-ups, comfy couches, a fireplace, and an open, spacious area perfect for whatever ails you. The diverse European cuisine will offer sandwiches, quiche, soups, salads, pastries from Europa, paninis (a specialty Italian sandwich), and, of course, coffee.
Even more conveniently, the café’s hours will extend till 11 p.m. or 12 p.m. on weekdays and 2 a.m. on weekends for all the professional procrastinators out there (you know who you are). Also, Kafka will accept Eagle Cards.
Rob Brewster and Tom Wood collaborated to extend the branch of flourishing and trendy cafés to EWU students and Cheney public. Wood is the previous manager of The Rocket Bakery on Main Ave.
“Rob [Brewster] is awesome to work with. He’s willing to do it up and take a risk,” he said.
Wood and Brewster are more than willing to collaborate with Eastern’s resources. In fact, The Eagle’s Pub and Kafka have already agreed to work hand-in-hand; supplying what the other lacks to avoid competition. The café is always on the look out for musicians, comedians, and various other forms of entertainment to create an inviting scene. Anyone interested or with questions should feel free to call Kafka Café at 235-2577.
