Not having much fun lately, not enough parties around campus foryou? Well, maybe you should throw your own party and get a coupleof kegs for everyone you know. “But, hey, aren’t kegsexpensive?” you ask. Yes, they are. But, there is aplace out there, a place that knows of the perils and weight thatis upon your college student shoulders, a place that gives studentdiscounts on kegs filled with some of the best microbrew this sideof…wherever. It’s called the Steam Plant Grill, andit’s located in the building marked by a couple of twohundred and twenty five foot tall smoke stacks that helped produceelectricity for most major buildings in Spokane up until 1986.
Perhaps you’ve seen them and thought to yourself,”Hey, I wonder what’s up with them thangs”. Toanswer your question: nothing is up with them, they’re just”landmarks” now. But what’s going on under themis BEERIFIC! They brew five beers in Spokane including CentennialPale Ale (the winner of gold medal awards), Lakeside British Ale,Huckleberry Ale, Golden Ale, and Coeur d’Alene Amber.
I prefer the “delicious balance between the sweetness ofmalt and the character of the hops” that is encompassed bythe Coeur d’ Alene Amber. You can choose for yourself, thekegs are available daily and it is best to call ahead and orderthem. The student discount is twenty dollars off of each keg, whichusually run about ninety-nine dollars. And it’s some gooddamn microwbrew for the money. The general manager of the grill, which was opened in 1999, must have witnessed the undying need forstudents to be able to drink and started the student discountmainly by word of mouth. But now you have the knowledge of thisphenomenon as well, use it wisely my fellow students.
Oh, and the best thing about these kegs: no registrationrequired with the police. So stick it to the man by getting yoursober ass over to the Steam Plant Grill and bringing thirstystudents what they really want (and it ain’t no edumucationthat we want).
