With all of the cold weather Eastern has been experiencing this past week, students can expect an even colder winter.
With all of these frigid conditions students might want to warm their stomachs with some hot cocoa.
While there are many choices as to where to go to get your hot chocolate.
One might consider the new espresso shop located in Tawanka.
Talking with Kelly Daubert, Monica McIsaac and Lindsay McCart, three of the 22 employees that work between the three espresso stands located at the Pub, Computer Engineering Building, and Tawanka.
They said the shop was supposed to open in the second week of October. In reality it was delayed and opened a week later because their boss, Ken Ripley had a new member added to his family that weekend.
Ripley has been working on opening this shop for over a year now and is in charge of all three espresso stands. The Tawanka Shop has replaced the espresso stand that used to be in Showalter because it is located closer to campus and is in a more convenient spot.
So what makes Tawanka’s shop more appealing than some of the other shops on campus? They don’t just sell coffee and espressos. Some of the menu items include ice cream, smoothies, sandwiches, wraps, salads, yogurt parfaits and fresh pastries baked daily.
On top of this there is a nice lounge area to sit and talk to friends or study.
The lounge provides free wireless Internet. So you can get online and do homework, check email or surf the net.
This winter the shop will be getting a television so customers can watch movies or TV while doing homework. The Tawanka espresso shop is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is closed on Saturday.
It’s open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. If you ever want a snack or are in the mood for a beverage, hot or cold, check out Tawanka’s espresso.
