The Eastern Washington University track and field teams wrapped up their season May 30-31 at the NCAA West Regionals. After solid performances at the Big Sky Championship that sent 10 Eastern athletes to the Regionals in Northridge, Calif., the Eagles’ best finish was ninth place.
Taylor Reed: Let’s face it, the Los Angeles Lakers are the team to beat going into the finals. After going through the much stronger Western Conference, the Lakers are peaking at the right time. As for their opponent, the Boston Celtics, they’ve narrowly beaten injury-plagued and/or young and inexperienced teams to reach the finals.
Football The Eastern Washington football team proved skeptics wrong by finishing the 2007 season with a 9-4 record. With a season-ending 38-35 loss at Appalachian State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs, the Eagles shocked the Big Sky after a disappointing 3-8 season in 2006.
Ten Eastern athletes will compete in the NCAA Regional Track and Field Championship West Regional May 30-31, in Northridge, Calif., including four Big Sky Champions. Cameron Moore, Bonnie Millard, Erika Kirley-Price and Aaron Mettler all added their names to the list of competitors in the NCAA West Regionals when they won their respective events at the 2008 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
It is very common for children to have dreams of one day being a professional athlete. The sad reality for most, however, is that the dream is just that: a dream. But for some Eastern athletes, that dream doesn’t fade and actually becomes a reality.
