This is a critical time in Olympia. The Washington Revenue and Economic Forecast Council will release their projection of state revenue for the 2009-11 cycle on March 19. The legislature will write their budget based on those findings. That means that the Senate will start releasing its budget sometime during spring break, which will be our first real look at what the budget could look like for higher education.
The last two weeks were very important for higher education in Washington state. Tuesday, Nov. 17 was Higher Education Day, when the administrations of all the four-year institutions put on an on-campus event to draw attention to higher education. Each school sent their mascot, a musical group (EWU sent a choir) and a group of volunteers to meet with legislators about EWU’s agenda.
