The Eastern Washington University women’s soccer team continued their unbeaten streak over the weekend with a 1-1 draw against Portland State and a 1-0 victory against Sacramento State, moving into first place in the Big Sky Conference (BSC).
Over the past few years, American interest in soccer has been steadily on the rise. What’s been commonly referred to as a boring game is now the fastest growing sport in the nation. Since the 2006 World Cup in Germany, American Major League Soccer (MLS) has been growing with existing United Soccer League teams like the Seattle Sounders and soon the Philadelphia Union being promoted to top tier soccer.
As a 21-year-old EWU senior facing graduation and a barren job market, I have the privilege of carrying increased stress levels and anxiety. It’s bad enough that finding a job will be as easy as locating a beer on Sunday in Utah, but financing the education to reach the professional level I want to attain is becoming more than ridiculous.
