Syllabi

We are required to inform students regarding a broad range of requirements and university policies in each course and program offered at EWU. The syllabus is usually the method of notification and sometimes is the required method of notification.

Student Learning Outcomes for Each Course

NWCCU, our accrediting entity, requires student learning outcomes for each case. This requirement is based upon NWCCU standard 2.C.2: “The institution identifies and publishes expected course, program, and degree learning outcomes. Expected student learning outcomes for courses, wherever offered and however delivered, are provided in written form to enrolled students.” NWCCU based this standard upon the Higher Education Act’s requirements that the criteria for measuring quality of education must include an appropriate measure or measures of student achievement and the standards for accreditation must include assessment of the institution’s success with respect to student achievement. The NWCCU refers to student achievement as student learning outcomes.

General Information

Academic Program and Course Management, 303-35 requires that “Faculty must provide sufficient information and detail in syllabi to establish that the minimum amount of work expected of students is consistent with the assignment of credit hours to the course.”https://sites.ewu.edu/policies/policies-and-procedures/ap-303-35-program-and-course-management/

Section 7.7.2 of the CBA: Faculty are responsible for informing students of “the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading.” http://access.ewu.edu/Documents/HRRR/Labor%20Relations/EWU-UFE_Agreement_2013-2016.pdf
