Our programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and guided by faculty from the region’s dynamic professional arts community, including the Spokane Symphony Orchestra and Chorale, Inland Northwest Opera, Spokane Jazz Orchestra, and many others!

Scholarship Auditions

Calling all passionate musicians! We welcome all students to participate in our music program.

Scholarships up to $3,000 – To be considered for a talent scholarship, complete the scholarship application and audition by March 15, 2025, for Fall ’25 entrance.

  • Auditions are open year-round for music majors and minors. You can schedule an in-person audition or submit a video.
  • Be sure to review the audition requirements before your appointment.

Note: Auditions outside the scholarship deadline are still accepted but won’t be considered for scholarship awards.

Our curriculum prepares students for a wide variety of career possibilities.

Music

The Music BA degree offers a variety of electives and opportunities to explore music and entrepreneurship. It also provides a strong foundation for careers in music therapy or healthcare. Many of our graduates pursue advanced degrees to further their career paths.

Music Education

Our nationally accredited Bachelor of Music Education (BME) Program and talented faculty generate well-prepared graduates in music education. We partner with the EWU School of Education and area schools to create opportunities and experiences that lead to certification and endorsements. Our placement in K-12 schools is 100%.

Music Technology

Many jobs in media production involve music: recording, editing, mastering, and sound design. Our Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology will prepare you to create your own business or find a job at a large company like Apple or Amazon. Or work with businesses related to recording studios, film, and media, or touring bands and ensembles.

Music Composition

The Bachelor of Music in Composition helps students develop the skills they need for a variety of careers in music. This nationally accredited program provides a supportive and creative environment where students grow as composers. Courses cover composition, orchestration, arranging, music technology and film scoring, giving students the tools to experiment and improve their craft.

Instrumental Performance

Our Bachelor of Music Performance degrees prepare you for careers as solo and collaborative artists, applied studio teachers and coaches, performers in professional orchestras and jazz ensembles, fellowship positions in summer festivals, or recording studios in commercial music. Many of our students have also been admitted to distinguished graduate programs.

Piano or Vocal Performance

The Bachelor of Music in Piano or Vocal Performance allows opportunities for solo and collaborative performances. Students will perform on and off campus in various venues and work closely with artist faculty. The program also features guest artist masterclasses each season.

Our Mission

The EWU Music Program’s mission is to provide:

  1. the highest quality education for the music major embarking on a career as a performer, composer, educator, music technology expert or scholar, and
  2. educate non-majors with music instruction in a liberal arts tradition.
