Hiring International Students

Many international students are eligible to work on campus after completing certain eligibility requirements. The steps the students need to complete before they begin working are outlined on the International Students Working On Campus page.

Supervisor Requirements

An important piece of International Students’ eligibility requirements is obtaining a job offer letter from you. This allows them to apply for their Social Security Number which they must have before beginning their new job.

The job offer letter must contain the following items:

  • Letterhead stationary
  • The student’s name
  • Job title
  • Short description of duties
  • Employment start date
  • Number of hours per week they will be working
  • Supervisor’s name and telephone number
  • Supervisor’s signature
  • A space for the EWU tax ID (OGI will enter the EWU tax ID later)

Provide a copy of this letter to the student along with a completed Non-Work Study Authorization Form. The Non-Work Study Authorization Form is available on the Hiring Documents page of this website. They will then need to make an appointment with OGI to continue the hiring process outlined above. The Student Employment office will contact you when the student is eligible to start working.

The student is not permitted to begin work before the process is complete and Student Employment contacts you.
