Work-Study

Work Study is a form of employment that is funded through a financial aid award to students who have requested it on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and who qualify.

Qualifying for Work Study

  1. To qualify, students must complete their FAFSA by the priority funding deadlinehttps://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, request Work Study on the FAFSA application, and demonstrate financial need.
  2. Once your FAFSA application is complete and has been reviewed by the Financial Aid Office, you will receive notice of your award through your Eagles email.  Please check your e-mail frequently for instructions on how to access your award in EagleNet and review all award messages closely.
  3. If you meet the initial Work Study eligibility requirements, you will be granted access to a Work Study Request Form on EagleNet that will include a deadline to submit in early July.   Submission of the form does not guarantee a Work Study award, but will put you on the final list for consideration.
  4. Work Study awards will then be made in early August. If you are awarded, you will see an estimated amount on your EagleNet account.
  5. If you do not see a Work Study estimate, you were not awarded Work Study for the academic year.  In the event that you do not receive an award, you can still apply for non-work study jobs at Eastern via Handshake.
  6. The FAFSA must be completed and qualifications must be met each year to be considered for Work Study.

Please call the Financial Aid and Scholarships office at 509.359.2314 or visit them at Sutton Hall 102 if you have questions regarding your financial aid or Work Study award.

Finding and Applying for Work Study Jobs

After you have received your work study award, you will need to search and apply for Work Study jobs through Handshake.

Demand for work-study generally exceeds available resources. Failure to seek placement in a timely manner may result in cancellation of your award.

Weekly Hours

You may work a maximum of 19 hours per week while classes are in session and a maximum of 40 hours per week when classes are not in session (provided you have sufficient funding). Please review EWU's Student Employment Policies for more info about weekly hour policies.

Enrollment Requirements

If you cancel your enrollment or drop below half-time enrollment, you immediately lose eligibility for work-study. Please review EWU's Student Employment Policies for more info about enrollment requirements.

Earnings

Wages vary depending upon the job. Your actual earnings will depend on the number of hours you work and your hourly wage for the job you are hired for. Should your eligibility change, your work-study earning limit may change. If changes occur, you and your employer will be notified. You may not earn more than the quarterly amounts listed on the employment authorization form. You and your employer are responsible for ensuring the limits are not exceeded. Any funds not earned at the end of the year are forfeited.

Types of Work Study Jobs

Work-study positions are available primarily in departments on-campus, along with a small number of off-campus positions through community service agencies, and we encourage students to apply for jobs related to their majors and career goals whenever possible.
